“It’s not what we have in life, but who we have in our life that matters” – J.M. lawrence
On the occasion of International Women’s Day, I thought it was only apt that I write a piece for all the women in each of our lives, who mean so much to us (while on the topic, I do wish there was a Men’s Day as well).
Here’s to the women in our lives-
To the 3AM friend we all fall back on – We all have that one friend who will take your call at anytime of the day, the one you make random plans with, the one who takes you out for a celebration when you’ve just been promoted, or indulges in an ice cream marathon when you are low, the one who knows you better than most others – this is the person who has been there for you, through thick and thin. She’s the one who’s laughed with you, and cried with you – your soul sister, if you will.
To Farah – we met in UK and despite being on different continents for the last 5 years, we have managed to be in touch with each other – every single day. I never knew the true meaning of friendship, until I met her ❤
To the sister who’s more of a friend – She’s the one who has always helped you – no matter what time – from a project at school, to an assignment for work – she has always been there for you, the one you played with as a child, the one you can have long debates and discussions with, and speak to till 3AM at night! The one who will always be by your side, no matter what. You have fought and even been mad at each other at times, but in the end, it all falls back in place. She’s the one who believes in you and always encourages you, and the one who lives her dreams through you.
To my sister Neha – we’ve stay in different cities for the past 8 years, but we only got closer with time, she’s the one I play Board games till 3AM at night, and discuss all kinds of random stuff with – from spirituality to career goals. She inspires me to follow my bliss (she quit a corporate job to take up writing as a career) ❤
Lucky enough to have two sisters, I would like to dedicate separate paragraphs to each.
To the sister who’s more like a mother to you – She’s the one who has mollycoddled you since you were a baby – she’s the one who would lose in a game, simply to let you win, and the one who cooks amazing meals every time you visit home. She’s the one you share clothes with and the one who will always treat you like a baby. She’s the one you irritated and played pranks on, and the one who never scolded you for it.
To my eldest sister Nikki Di – she’s the one who would gave me everything on a platter when I came back from school – from serving my lunch to laying out the clothes I would change into. She inspires me with her selflessness and dedication towards family ❤
To the mother we all love but forget to say I Love You to – she’s the one who has always encouraged you to do what you want, and the one who will always support and love you, no matter what. The one who teaches you to be a better person, and the one who defends you to the rest of the world. She’s the one who arranges your wardrobe (for the nth time), folds your clothes , and cleans up your room every time she enters it! She’s the one who scolds you when you are up till too late (but gives up eventually ;)) and the one who understands you the best.
To my Ma who made me who I am – She inspires me to take shit from no one in life – and to stand up for myself. She’s the one who sent me to Delhi, and UK, and the one who always encourages me to do what I want. The coolest mom ever, she’s the one who asked me not to study during exams (yes, she would actually ask me to sleep or chill instead), and the one who lets me be who I am. She’s the one who always taught me that money isn’t everything and the one who will be the happiest person the day I decide to move back home, and quit the corporate world! She’s the one I’m closest to ❤
Brilliance! Keep the super creative work going!!
