I’ve never believed in coincidences. I  am a firm believer in the thought that everything happens for a reason. In fact, even when shuffling my deck of Tarot cards, if a card happens to fall out, I make it a point to see what it says – surely, there must be a reason that particular card fell out – right?

As you can imagine, my firm belief in this concept makes my entire life feel like a perfectly synchronised duet – between me and The Universe – which is constantly communicating with me via symbols, signs and sometimes, well-hidden messages. Call me crazy, but that’s how I see the world.

Moments that creep up to us, catching us unawares. And it’s only years later that you realise their significance.

Think about it. I discovered my passion for tarot when I accidentally happened to see a deck of cards at a classmate’s place. Who knew my fascination with the vibrantly illustrated cards will last a lifetime?

One of my favorite books of all time – Atlas Shrugged was picked by me as a complete coincidence. One day in school, I had a free period. I turned to a classmate of mine and asked if she had any novel I could read. She handed me a library book she had picked that week. The book, hardbound in the signature blue covers synonymous with school libraries didn’t let on anything. The spine had no name or author. In an attempt to kill the next 45 minutes ahead of me, I opened the book and before long, was swept into the enthralling world of Dagny Taggart and Hank Rearden. Needless to say, I issued that book the very next week from the school library.

And sometimes? You meet the most important people in your life through chance encounters. Who knows if the person sitting next to you in the subway will one day become your best friend? Who knows if that stranger you said ‘hello’ to at a friend’s party would one day be the one you marry? And who knows if that chance meeting at a Starbucks could throw you in the path of your future manager, who would lead you to your dream job?The bottom-line is, you don’t. Nobody does.

So why not make the most of each moment you encounter in life. There’s a reason for everything that happens. A reason for why you chose to sit beside someone on your first day at school. A reason why you pick a random book off the shelf. A reason why you pick a random place as your next travel destination. A reason why that particular pair of eyes caught your attention in a crowded airport. A reason why you got selected in a particular university and not the other one you’d set your heart on. A reason also for the exams you didn’t clear, the friendships that didn’t last and the things that didn’t work out. In the end, you will know.

Until then, trust your gut. Believe in The Universe. Believe in the signs.
